Inflammation is important. It helps your body fight foreign invaders and also has a role in repairing damage. Without inflammation, pathogens like bacteria could easily take over your body which can be fatal. Although acute, short-term inflammation is beneficial, it can become a major problem when it becomes chronic and inappropriately attacks your body’s own tissues.

After a vigorous workout, your body will repair muscle fibers during periods of recovery. Turmeric can help boost recovery for your muscles and joints.  It contains curcumin, a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Curcumin blocks free radicals and also boosts your body’s own antioxidant power.

Try out this Turmeric Latte Recipe created by Registered Dietitian, Leslie Bobo of All About Well. Leslie adds black pepper to enhance curcumin absorption.

Ingredients:

1.5 cups unsweetened almond milk

1 tsp. organic turmeric

1 tsp. raw honey

Dash of black pepper

Dash of cinnamon

Method:

Heat milk over stove in small saucepan. Once warm, add the rest of the ingredients and mix. Use a hand blender or transfer to blender to froth. Add another dash of cinnamon on top if desired, enjoy!
